My handsome, bright kitty, Pushkin, is now diabetic! (On top of all the other health problems you may have read about in "Sick Kitty Comics," Issue #37.) He needs to have insulin shots twice a day, AND I am supposed to blood-test him, which I have not really been successful with, yet… even with Bruce's help, there was more of OUR blood spilled than Pushkin's!

But, I met some WONDERFUL people on the Feline Diabetes site! Fine folks and their felines, from all over the country, all experienced with the headache and heartbreak of diabetic kitties! It has been a lifesaver! If I have any questions or concerns, all I have to do is type in a question to the Message Board, and within an hour or so, I have an answer, reassurance, whatever I need! I recommend this site to anyone who has found out they have a cat with diabetes and are not sure what to do next!

Unfortunately, I also ran up some big vet bills for Pushkin since September, when he was diagnosed: hospitalization for his blood-glucose curves, plus his insulin, syringes, tester and such! Currently, the tab is over $600 and counting.

BUT, I am making lemonade out of these lemons. I decided that it was time for a new book. Over the years I have contributed to heaps of comics benefit books: Choices, Strip AIDS USA, True North, Images of Omaha, What's Wrong, What Right, which are the few that immediately come to mind. Time for my kitty to benefit. So, I am currently compiling a digest-sized small-press comic book that is, literally, going to be the Cat's Meow! Fantagraphics has graciously allowed me to reprint stories that have previously appeared in Naughty Bits. It will be filled with wonderful cat-filled stories, including my Eisner-Nominated short story, "Bye-Bye Muffy," all my Pushkin stories, the Louis Wain biography, and much more, including all-new material!
