UPDATE, March 2006.
Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a good remainder-of-2005 since my last update, from around June or so.
Here is the latest!
First thing, Pushkin is doing pretty well. He seems a bit grumpier than usual, (he has springtime allergies which give him runny eyes) but he has had almost none of the scary symptoms he used to have all the time (which I will spare the delicate from having to hear about.) A big thank-you to those who have been asking about him!
I misplaced my envelope of vet and diabetes-related receipts, (the bills as of June 2005 were over $900) so my record-keeping has sort of gone down the hole, for now, but the Real Cat Toons sales show no danger of overtaking the vet bills.
No, I haven’t fallen into a ditch or anything like that… actually, I have a lot of projects in various stages, from the early beginnings, to, well… the early stages of nearing completion!
Chris is still helping me get the bugs out of the website. For a short while I was getting some orders from overseas, and PayPal was really undercharging the postage. We did a bit of adjustment, and now there are hardly any overseas orders, but now it seems that people in the US are getting overcharged for postage. Don’t worry… I am giving partial postage refunds to people who order, until we get this straightened out. Any feedback on the best way to work with postage, overseas and domestic, would be most appreciated.
Most of the comics are still available, though I am starting to run short of certain issues, especially the early ones. Also, Artistic Licentiousness got a great review in Sequential Tart recently. http://www.sequentialtart.com/archive/feb06/art_0206_3.shtml
To celebrate, I am now offering the Artistic Licentiousness series for sale! DETAILS HERE!
APPEARANCES:
I was at San Diego Comic Con International, July 20 through 22, despite earlier reports to the contrary. I was also at Emerald City Comic Con, in Seattle, April 1 and 2. Donna Barr and I were at the Dimestore Productions/SPA booth. In addition, from April 13 through 16, I was at Norwescon, just south of Seattle, at the SeaTac Doubletree.
PUBLICATIONS:
In August, 2005 I had a six-page story, “California Girl,” appear in the book Road Strips, a Graphic Journey Across America from Chronicle Books. It’s a great collection I am proud to be included in! Read a review of it here:

In December 2005, Bob Olsen’s book, Rich Memories With a Christmas Spirit, came out with 9 illustrations of mine in it. You can read about it on the publisher’s site: go to Catalog and then Non-Fiction.

I had another six-pager, “Camellia,” in Sexy Chix from Dark Horse, which came out in January, 2006. Read more about the book here:

I am scheduled to have a 5 page story appear in Following Cerebus #8.
I have a new small press comic, (very small—only eight pages!): Meet the Radikittens, which should be available shortly from the site, or at any of my personal appearances. It only sells for a dollar, which may be tricky selling it mailorder. The postage would cost more than the book itself!
In the meantime, here is some art for your amusement!
Last Year :
July, 2005!
The year is almost half over! I am still working part time
at Seattle Center, but I have a LOT more projects going
on, some in the nearly-finished stage, and others barely
getting off the ground. One of these is an autobio comic
strip all about my adventures at Seattle Center, and it
is one of the barely-off the ground variety, unfortunately.
I also discovered
I am good at cat portraits! The last weekend in May, I set
up to sell my Real Cat Toons booklet at the Average Joe
Cat Show in Seattle, to benefit the Purrfect Pals cat shelter,
and before I knew it, I was drawing color portraits of the
cats at the show. More people wanted portraits than I had
time to draw. I tell you, life has been like this…
every week or so I discover a potential new direction to
take my creative efforts.
Life has been
like a dizzying banquet for me, lately. Wonderful people
and fantastic events and creative challenges seem to be
hiding behind every corner. I can barely keep up an account
of all the projects that are going on in my life. This is
only a short update, Much more is to come and more surprises
are coming on this site!
